Film Festival “Wie wir leben” (How we live)

Social minorities, physically or mentally ill people and people with disabilities are unfortunately too often excluded in today's society. Often, the reason for this is that the issue of being different is still not adequately addressed. Since more than 15 years, the international short film festival “Wie wir leben” (How we live) brings together affected people, filmmakers and the audience to experience, reflect and discuss the conditions of disability and illness in everyday life through film. The intention is to break through social barriers and build bridges between people.

Wie wir leben (How we live)

Social minorities, physically or mentally ill people and people with disabilities are unfortunately too often excluded in today's society. Often, the reason for this is that the issue of being different is still not adequately addressed. Since more than 15 years, the international short film festival “Wie wir leben” (How we live) brings together affected people, filmmakers and the audience to experience, reflect and discuss the conditions of disability and illness in everyday life through film. The intention is to break through social barriers and build bridges between people.

Autonomous living is the common theme that connects the films. Hörmann sponsored the first competition prize from 2003 to 2009.

“Simon” (France), “Wackelkontakt” [Loose Connection] (Germany), “Moen-Koey” (Korea), “How it is to be my mother” (Poland) each won the €5000 prize.
The successor to the festival is the “if award – inclusive television award” of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Behinderung und Medien (Working Group on Disability and Media).

Besides sponsoring the film festival, Hörmann also supports the creation and sale of essay collections related to some of the film adaptations.

The actors of the creative workshop “barner16”, which belongs to the Evangelische Stiftung Alsterdorf (Protestant Foundation) from Hamburg, were sponsored by the Hörmann Group and attempted this medium for a second time after the award-winning short film “Wackelkontakt” (Loose Connection). Once again, they demonstrated their strength in offering alternatives to the normed everyday life in terms of form and behaviour, imagination and perspective.
