Dr Polina Šedienė organises so-called “MOSES” training courses with her patients. The methodology is based on the MOSES training programme, designed to help people better understand their epilepsy disease so that they are able to lead their own lives with as few limitations as possible.
The local “Hörmann Baltic” regional sales office has donated a colour copier to the centre, which allows Dr Sediene to easily and cost-effectively provide information material to her patients. The MOSES patient education booklet was translated into Lithuanian and printed. Hörmann has provided the consulting centre with additional financial aid for an epilepsy information programme developed in co-operation with the Lithuanian Ministry of Social Security and Labour and will continue to sponsor further activities of the consulting centre in the future.
Social work in Lithuania is traditionally performed on an honorary basis. The connection to Caritas, which is highly trusted in Lithuania, is essential for nationwide information and consulting. A currently planned joint integration project with the Lithuanian Ministry of Health is an important step towards official recognition of the epilepsy consulting centre.
The establishment of the centre, which took place in a relatively short period of time, would not have been possible without the backing of German institutions (e.g., the Radeberg epilepsy centre) and the financial support of private sponsors (e.g., the “Aktion Mensch” social organisation and Hörmann).
