See anew

Familiar images are often associated with familiar preconceptions. Art competitions are as well suited as new media to replace them. Seeing familiar things with a different set of eyes can sometimes be enlightening.

  • Feature films naturally convey information that goes far beyond their main purpose of entertainment. More than 500 feature films relating to epilepsy are listed in a database of the German Epileptologists' Association.
  • Members of the creative workshop “barner 16” of the Alsterdorfer Stiftung (Alsterdorf Foundation) from Hamburg created the multi-part series “Eddie Airways” on YouTube, featuring special people and weird guys.
  • To raise awareness for the needs of people with epilepsy, students from German art and design colleges and freelance artists were invited to take part in the 1999 Art Competition Epilepsy.
  • Competitions at the Bremen University of the Arts provided new perspectives on epilepsy and on being different in general.
  • In 2006, the “Kidron” clinic for children and adolescents with epilepsy moved into a new wing of the Bethel Epilepsy Centre. House “Kidron” was subsequently demolished. The “Kidron photo project 2005 – 2006” accompanied the everyday life of its staff and patients in the last two years of its existence
