Engaging in exchange
Following the observation day of the apprentices and dual students of the Hörmann KG Verkaufsgesellschaft as part of the project “Markt der Möglichkeiten” (Market of Opportunities), specialists and managers were also to be given the opportunity to establish first contact points with the residents. Being a local family business, Hörmann takes it as a personal mission to promote human inclusion and interaction and to provide another platform for this purpose. In light of the Corona pandemic, people with disabilities and those in need were facing particular challenges. Many regular contacts, personal support or care services as well as leisure activities and health promoting activities have been severely restricted. Therefore, it was of great importance to the Hörmann company to bring them a little joy during these times. The Make-a-Wish campaign at Christmas time was launched to bring a little change to the daily lives of those affected and to keep a smile on their faces even in difficult times. The employees of the Hörmann KG Verkaufsgesellschaft had therefore the opportunity to fulfil a personal Christmas wish for the residents or visitors from initially five facilities.
Giving is the greatest joy
Since the start of the project, the interest in giving gifts to people has steadily increased, so that it is now possible to give gifts to 10 institutions. The wishes are manifold: from calendars to toys to care sets or a CD of the favourite artist, everything was on the list. In total, more than 570 wishes have already been fulfilled by Hörmann employees as part of the project.
Once again every year
The project was launched in 2020 and continues since then to fulfil many new Christmas wishes owing to the overwhelmingly positive response.
“It was really fun picking out the presents and being able to bring joy to the residents. We were especially pleased by the strong participation and positive feedback we received from colleagues.“
Hannah Robert, dual student at Hörmann KG VKG
“It was with pleasure that I drew a card and fulfilled the wish on it, knowing that it would bring someone joy and not just wind up in the cellar. Because Christmas isn’t Christmas without gifts.”
Peter Kuttke, Employee at Hörmann KG Amshausen
“We really enjoyed taking part in the Make-a-Wish campaign to help fulfil the modest wishes of 43 children, adolescents and young adults in our region, such as a book, a Schleich horse or an UNO game. It is not just about the gifts but about sending them a signal to let them know that other people think of them so they don't feel abandoned by society. I'm already looking forward to seeing what's on the wish lists in 2023.”
